In partnership with Child and Family Services Authority’s Aboriginal Services Office, Mahmawi-atoskiwin works alongside individuals and their family to create a Family Wellness Team.  Mahmawi-atoskiwin works through a model that is based on traditional Aboriginal teachings and western practice.  Mahmawi-atoskiwin is an alliance of three agencies: Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, Enviros and Pathways Community Service Association.
 
POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
The Family Wellness Partner reports to the Mahmawi-atoskiwin team. This is the primary contact person for the child/youth and/or family and is responsible for developing and implementing the family wellness plan, finding and implementing resources for support, and coordinating the delivery of service in timely fashion. Working from a holistic perspective, this role is a key source of professional support and accountability for the family as they move through life’s journey. They will seek opportunities for families to advance safety and wellness, connect with cultural and natural supports, and build the personal and instrumental assets that will enhance healthy family living. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supports families through initial contact as they come to the attention of CFSA, and continues to support the family through regular visits
  • Assists families in developing problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills
  • Ensures the inclusion of appropriate supports in case planning
  • Advocates on behalf of and provides support to families
  • Establishes positive relationships with families and youth 
  • Facilitates family wellness planning meetings and establishes a plan, which is reviewed every 3 months with families
  • Provide Crisis intervention, crisis management and safety planning with families and CFSA
  • Ensure families have access to a cultural resources and support
  • Ensure outcomes, assessments, service plans etc. are current and up to date
  • Manages crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills
  • Work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the families
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Diploma or Degree in Human Services field preferred or a related degree with experience
  • Minimum three years experience with In-Home Support and Family work
  • Possess knowledge of Child and Family Services and the Family Enhancement Act
  • Previous work with Aboriginal Families is an asset
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, organizing, planning and analytical skills.
  • Supportive team player.
  • Proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as excellent oral and written skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check
  • Use of a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 liability, permission to carry passengers and business coverage on the vehicle
  • Valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract with minimal demerits
Please Note: Successful candidates will complete criminal record check and child intervention record check at the time of new hire paperwork.  A criminal record check and child intervention record check dated within 6 months of the interview date will also be accepted.
