Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region

Qualifications:

  • Secondary school diploma OR some secondary school with related experience.
  • Minimum eighteen years of age.
  • Valid G2 license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be reliable and dependable, punctual and committed.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.

 

Role:

Unique opportunity to support 3 men connect to places in community! As individuals, each have their own interests and so a suitable candidate will support with planning to attend various activities and venues in community, catering to each person. The intention is for these individuals to make connections with these places so that eventually they’ll be comfortable visiting on their own. Generally, these individuals enjoy being active and enjoy sports, both playing and watching.

Hours and Pay:

  • Tuesday evenings from 5-9pm (4 hrs/wk)
  • The pay rate is $15.44/hr. Mileage and meal allowance are covered.
  • Groups run from September to June (approx. 40 weeks per year)

Responsibilities and Functions:

Reporting to the person being supported, their family, and a designated EAFWR Support Coordinator, the Community Connector will:

Provide Support to the Person and Family:

  • Support the group, along with your co-facilitator, to develop a schedule of weekly activities
  • Facilitate equal participation in developing the schedule and in chosen activities
  • Establish and maintain a respectful relationship with all members of the group
  • Engage in open and honest communication with each member of the group, their family and the designated Support Coordinator.
  • Be aware of and adhere to EAFWR’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and maintain a safe work environment for yourself and the person being supported.
  • Maintain awareness of and adherence to EAFWR procedures dealing with serious and/or unusual incidents. 

Provide Support to EAFWR Administration by:

  • Maintain awareness of and adherence to relevant guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Promote the growth of an organizational culture that is both inclusive and anti-oppressive.
  • Participate in training and staff development as requested/required.
  • Provide documents relevant to the position as requested by EAFWR.
