Contract Position


The Facilitator will deliver Workshops to clients of the Pacific Self-Employment Program in Surrey as part of Self-Employment services in the Employment Program of BC. The Program's clients (many are newcomers to Canada and have English as a second language) are transitioning from unemployment to creating a business to provide their own employment.


Position Summary:

The topics to be covered are Social Media.  

The Facilitator will instruct business owners on how to have a social media presence. Each session should cover basic concepts to assist clients with choosing the best social media platforms to use in their business.  By the end of the workshop session clients should possess knowledge of the following: 

  • A Social Media strategy relevant to their marketing plan
  • Social Media resource links
  • Clear guidelines to follow for creating Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and other Social Media profiles
  • Understand common terms, practices and industry trends.


Primary Duties:

  • Develop course outlines and expected outcomes for approval by Team Lead, Self-Employment Program
  • Prepare and review curriculum, teaching and resource materials (e.g. presentations, handouts, exercise sheets, etc.)
  • Facilitate Social Media Workshops and deliver topics as outlined above
  • Distribute and collect sign-in sheets from participants at each workshop session
  • Liaise with Self-Employment Program Team Lead, Business Coach and Program Assistant


Dimensions of Work

  • Classes will be held five times per year in Surrey.
  • Flexible and willing to travel
  • There is one half-day scheduled in each program to cover the workshops described.
  • Facilitator will be compensated based on each workshop session delivered.
  • "All Materials (course outlines, curriculums, presentations, handouts, etc.) are to be reviewed and approved by the Team Lead of Self-Employment Program prior to workshop delivery."


Academic and Job Experience Required:

  • Experience in social media development
  • Relevant business training in the form of a Provincial Instructors Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior business ownership
  • Experience developing curriculum and delivering classroom training
  • Experience delivering workshops to self-employment clients and immigrants a definite asset


Basic Requirements:

  • Strong class management and instructional skills
  • Broad and up-to-date knowledge of social media development, trends and industry changes
  • Knowledge of Self-Employment services in the Employment Program of BC a definite asset
  • Knowledgeable and respectful of the needs of micro business start ups
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office Suite, Internet and Email
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Dynamic, enthusiastic and result-oriented, with a good ability to motivate
  • Competent to accomplish tasks with deadlines and handle stress and pressure.

Contract Terms: Up to 5 sessions per year, until March 2018. Renewal subject to Funding

Salary Range:     $150.00 for each half-day session and preparation time

Closing Date:     Close of business (4:30 pm) on September 15, 2017
