Youth Settlement Worker

The Youth Settlement Worker works within a high-energy, collaborative team to provide employment, language, and community support to newcomer youth. The position works out of Drive Youth Employment Services, Frog Hollow Neighbourhood Houses’ youth satellite.

Hours: 28 hours/week
Starting Salary: $22.20/hour
Start Date: October 2, 2017
Contract: Until March 31, 2018 with possibility of extension

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 case management services for newcomer youth ages 19-30 including needs assessments, employment counseling, and program referrals

  • Support newcomer youth to integrate with local youth services, community centres, language training, housing, food hubs, etc.

  • Create and implement a plan for community outreach and promotion

  • Maintain an excellent working knowledge of community resources

  • Maintain accurate and consistent client files in iCARE reporting system

  • Complete quarterly progress reports for submission to IRCC

  • Achieve targets related to number of clients served, and number of 1:1 sessions delivered

  • Participate in youth department team meetings, settlement staff meetings, and case conferencing

     

     

    Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in child and youth care, social work, or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience working with newcomer youth

  • Minimum 2 years of experience providing settlement and/or employment services

  • Excellent organization and time management skills, including ability to manage high

    caseloads

  • Excellent administrative skills including database management

  • Broad knowledge of community resources available for newcomers, and working

    relationships with other service providers

  • Ability to communicate in a fast-paced multi-cultural setting

  • Commitment to ongoing training

  • CCDP an asset

  • Second Language is an asset
