RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training

Coordinate Food Safety – including Food Handler Course training for volunteers and staff.

Monitor volunteer services to ensure consistency with program criteria. 

Practical

Coordinate and schedule volunteers assisting on the Outreach vehicle.

Direct the loading of the vehicle with prepared food for outreach services.

Take inventory to ensure all material assistance items are in stock.

Purchase as required all necessary supplies to prepare meals on site as needed.

Collaborate with local churches for meal donations for the outreach program.

Report any maintenance needs of the EMS Vehicle to the Centre of Hope administration.

Administration

Develop a network of existing services and resources in the community including those of other Salvation Army Centres.

Information Resources

Create and maintain a resource rack of information for other agencies within the community. 

Create and maintain an outreach resource manual/database that contains a current listing of volunteers, contacts and statistics.

Collect program documentation and statistical data.

Perform other position related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completed Community College a diploma in Social Work or counselling or equivalent 

Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience, experience in social services and/or outreach programs is preferred

Strong oral and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skill and customer service skills

Self-motivated and disciplined

Attention to detail and ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions, complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision 

Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

Ability to lift/move more than 20 lbs.

Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR Certifications are required

Must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL

Valid Ontario class “G” Driver’s License, have a personal vehicle and insurance, and a current original copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required

Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment

Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry 

Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada

NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

 

This is a permanent, part time position based on 12 hours per week.  Schedule will vary according to menu plans, availability of volunteers, etc.  Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The supervisor will set hours of work and work schedule. 

 

Generally, food preparation will take place on Tuesday morning/afternoon.  The Operation Mobilizing Hope ministry takes place on Tuesday’s 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with unloading and cleanup of van and kitchen afterward (and return of the van to Centre of Hope).  Balance of hours used in meal planning, grocery shopping, and recruitment and scheduling of volunteers, etc.
