Permanent Part-time (24 hours per week)



This position requires Union membership. Compensation is in accordance with Appendix A of the BCGEU Collective Agreement. This position is open to male and female applicants.


Options Community Services Society is currently seeking a temporary part-time Suicide Prevention Education and Counselling (SPEAC) Therapist, to provide direct, professional counselling for youth (18 years or younger) who have attempted suicide, are at risk of doing so, or are survivors of suicide, and to provide counselling for their families and other significant persons.


Education, Training, and Experience

  • Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field in a recognized professional faculty is required.
  • Two (2) years recent related experience in suicide prevention/treatment required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent oral/written communications and computer skills.
  • Satisfactory criminal records check.
  • A reliable vehicle is necessary.
  • A second language and First Aid training are considered assets.

Job Skills and Abilities

  • Primary responsibilities will be to provide suicide risk assessment, crisis intervention and short-term counselling for children and youth in Surrey and Langley.
  • Facilitation of community education and consultation.
  • Is well organized and capable of working independently as well as within a larger team.
  • Has proven skills in building and maintaining relationships with community partners.
  • Crisis Line experience an asset.
