Location: St. Catharines Salary: $14.00 per hour


Assist in the daily activities of Family Services during the Christmas Season

Process donations of Christmas toys and food for Christmas Hampers by picking up, unloading, documenting, sorting and making donated items ready for distribution

Assist with intake of Christmas Assistance application for the seasonal hamper program

Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner

Provide assistance in the Kettle Campaign-schedule, greet and orient volunteers, nightly kettle pickups etc.

Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre

Receive and process telephone calls from clients requiring Christmas assistance

Perform other position related duties as required



Completed Secondary School

Minimum of one (1) year prior related experience working in community based programs would be an asset

Ability to work with little supervision but also able to accept direction when necessary

Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy work environment

Ability to work in a team environment

Good organization, communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to lift up to 40lbs/20 kilos

Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License, must have own vehicle, insurance and a current driver’s abstract (original copy) that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required

Self-motivated and discipline

Experience/Working knowledge in word processing, spread sheet use, general office equipment and Microsoft Office

Provide an original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada. 

NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered


This is a temporary full time position based on 40 hours per week.  The normal hours of work and work schedule are as follows, Monday and Tuesday: 2:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday: 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break. 


Start Date: November 06, 2017   End Date: December 22, 2017
