Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) is currently recruiting for the following position: Director, Internal Audit.

 

Reporting to the VP, Finance & Corporate Services with dotted lines to the CEO and the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board of Directors, the Director, Internal Audit is responsible for managing and conducting the CCFC risk based comprehensive financial and operational internal audit program. This encompasses managing external auditors in each Country Office (currently 6: Nicaragua, Paraguay, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ethiopia, and India), providing recommendations based on audit findings, supporting the Canada external audit, leading the field external audits as well as performing internal audits in the field and of individual departments and vendors. This position has dotted line supervision over the Finance Managers in each Country Office. This position also provides a consultative role giving guidance on process recommendations resulting from audit findings. This position further provides a consultative role giving guidance on grant project related audit and compliance matters.

 

We are seeking a skilled auditor able to lead, coach and guide as well as conduct hands on substantive audit testing in the field. This is a subject matter expert role with oversight over third parties, a significant reporting relationship to the Board and the executives of CCFC, and requires being objectively focused on material issues applying a risk based and root cause analysis approach.

 

This role requires field travel once per quarter (every 3 months) with an average duration of 2 weeks. Such travel includes harsh conditions during audits of the field operations.

 

This role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Strategic design and annual planning for the CCFC internal audit activity including budget and scheduling.
  • Conducting annual internal audits as planned and reporting on findings.
  • Follow up on progress by other staff on accepted audit recommendations and report monthly on all activities and KPI (key performance indicators) results.
  • Conducting the selection, negotiation of fees, work plan, and review of results of external auditors used in the field.
  • Managing and monitoring the internal audit activities of the Country Office Finance Managers.
  • Acting as CCFC’s Privacy Officer to ensure donor privacy legislation and other workplace-related legislation compliance is met.

Qualifications:

  • Canadian accounting designation (CPA, formerly CA/CMA/CGA) and CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) and member in good standing with CPA Canada and The Institute of Internal Auditors.
  • CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) and Information Technology/Software Certifications are assets.
  • Minimum 10 years’ internal audit experience in planning, conducting audits, and formal reporting to senior management (CEO/CFO) and a Board of Directors or designated sub-committee(s).
  • Excellent verbal and written English communications skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent documentation and organization skills.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining relationships for open sharing of information.
  • Experience reviewing IT, financial, and operational business processes and recommending process improvements.
  • Strong project management skills – able to prioritize and organize at high and detailed level. Able to strategically plan projects and audits in advance considering all elements to achieve the audit objectives.
  • Experience with a multi-location environment is an asset; international work experience an asset; languages other than English (in particular Spanish and French), written and/or spoken, an asset; work experience within a non-profit environment an asset.
  • Able to travel internationally throughout the year on an independent basis, often into harsh and demanding environments.
