Female Coordinator / Female Co-Facilitator for Men’s Group Therapy

Relationship Violence Prevention Program – Cultural Edition

Part-Time - Permanent

 

Abbotsford Community Services is looking for a Female Coordinator/Female Group Co-facilitator to run the Men’s Relationship Violence Prevention Program (RVPP) (a court mandated group counselling program for South Asian men on probation who are at medium to high risk of spousal or partner abuse in the Interior Fraser Region).

 

The successful candidate (along with an existing male facilitator) will:

  • Use the RVPP curriculum to deliver a three (3) hour session every week over a period of seventeen (17) weeks. *The groups are primarily conducted in Abbotsford and in the Punjabi language.
  • Prepare and debrief before and after each session.
  • Preparing material/handouts and other essential aids for each session.
  • Provide assessments for clients.
  • Provide individual and crisis support, as needed.
  • Attend meetings with clinical supervisor.
  • Model skills (in male and female team of facilitators) and attitudes pertaining to respectful relationships.
  • Maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination role and will also carry out non–group specific and administrative tasks such as:

  • Screening referrals, assessment, intake, crisis calls, maintaining client files, record keeping, report writing and providing and compiling data for evaluators.
  • Contacting victims or intimate partners to ensure their safety.
  • Continuous liaison with probation officers.
  • To provide probation with mid-term and final reports as per the specific format.
  • To keep current /updated through relevant educational opportunities or personal reading.
  • Networking with community groups.
  • Participating in Abbotsford Community Services trainings and meetings as required.

 

The successful candidate should have:

  • A degree in counselling, social work, (M.A. psych, M.Ed. Counselling Psychology, or MSW), criminology or a related field, or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Experience in running groups and motivating clients towards changes.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills, in both English and Punjabi (reading and writing, as well as knowledge of additional languages Hindi and Urdu can be an asset).
  • Proficient teaching skills; knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques.
  • Good organization, time and general management skills.
  • Familiarity with the current counselling therapies and models based on prevention of family violence, family counselling literature, preferably with experience in assaultive men’s treatment.
  • General knowledge of Indo-Canadian community and dynamics of family violence in the community.
  • Essential knowledge of the current Family law, child protection, and safety of the victims.
