Coast Mental Health (Coast) is one of the largest mental health non-profit societies in Canada, and operates a large array of innovative housing and community based rehabilitation services for people with a mental illness living in and around Vancouver. Coast operates in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia providing approximately 1000 people with supportive housing and 4000 clients living in the community with a wide variety of programs and services. Coast fosters a client-driven, recovery-oriented environment that promotes restoring health, personal growth and a return to society for individuals with a mental illness through advocacy and providing direct programs and services.

About Storey’s

Storey’s is a new innovative supported housing program located in central Richmond in which Coast has 48 units within the building. The program targets clients experiencing mental illness and addiction and in need of rehabilitation. Staff will work together with clients, families and partnered service providers to support clients to have safe and stable housing, develop skills and confidence to live independently and encourage community integration and inclusivity.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager or designate, we are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional who yearns for an opportunity to further develop their leadership skills and positively impact Coast’s strategic and divisional goals while navigating challenges. As the program coordinator, you will act as an ambassador for Coast and be responsible for promoting Coast’s culture and driving the housing program in Richmond. This position is responsible for program development, implementation and evaluation: staff and client management; strategic plans, goals, objectives and policies; referral and vacancy management; as well as taking an active role in the day to day operations. This position ensures that staff deliver program and support services and enable clients to enter, maintain and exit programs when appropriate.

Typical Job Duties

• Responsible for day to day operations and maintenance of the program by developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans, goals, objectives and policies for the program.

• Responsible for staff and client management

• Responsible for mentoring and training of staff members

• Responsible for referral and vacancy management, administrative tasks, providing supervision to a staff group and ensuring program maintenance and safety.

• Support the direct delivery of support services to clients by ensuring that staff deliver program and support services, and enable clients to enter, maintain and exit programs when appropriate.

• Responsible for reporting and escalating complex problematic situations to the program manager

• Consult with staff members to identify trends, needs and priority health issues

• Ensure the health and safety of staff members and clients at Storey’s

Required Qualifications

• BA or Diploma in Mental Health or related field and three years experience working in a mental health setting, with one year of supervisory and one year of program development and evaluation experience or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• A valid B.C. class 5 drivers license

• A First Aid Certificate

• A Ministry of Justice Criminal Records Clearance required if hired

Knowledge and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of mental illness and treatment modalities, and has kept current with new developments in mental health.

• Proven leadership skills with the ability to delegate and resolve conflict.

• Knowledge of the principles underlying crisis and risk management and intervention.

• Knowledge of culturally sensitivities.

• Knowledge of concurrent disorders.

• Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation principles.

• Knowledge of housing issues and community resources.

• Ability to analyze and solve problems

• Ability to work with people with a mental illness.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

• Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.

• Ability to operate related equipment.

• Ability to organize and prioritize

• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.

• Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

• Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties.

• Computer and administration skills are required

Week 1 & 2:

Saturday - Sunday: Off;
Monday - Friday: 08:30 - 16:30
