Part Time (17.5hrs/wk) – North Central Okanagan


The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is dedicated to helping anyone concerned with or facing dementia have the confidence and skills to maintain quality of life, to ensuring that public policy and perceptions reflect the issues and reality, and to securing funding for research.


Minds in Motion® is fitness and social program for people experiencing early stage memory loss. The individual attends the program with a care partner or friend. The Minds in Motion Coordinator (MMC) is responsible for the development and management of the Society’s Minds in Motion programs including partnerships with community centres and volunteer recruitment and supervision in a designated geographical area.


The permanent part time position is based in our Kelowna Alzheimer Resource Centre; travel throughout the North Central Okanagan region will be required.


  •  Develops and manages partnerships with community or seniors’ centres in accordance with the Minds in Motion Partnership Guidelines
  • Facilitates social interaction and encourages involvement in activities that engage people with dementia and their care partners, guided by their needs, abilities and interests
  • Evaluates the ongoing appropriateness of participants in the program and manages the process of transitions from the program with awareness and sensitivity
  • Consults with the fitness instructor and provides assistance during the fitness program if directed by the fitness instructor to assist individual participants
  • Connects participants to Alzheimer Society of C. services and other community resources for people with dementia and their families, as needed
  • Recruits, screens, trains and supervises volunteers to assist in the programs


  •  Post-secondary degree plus related designations and 1-3 years of experience in a health or social agency related function OR an equivalent of education and experience.
  • Diploma in Recreational Therapy is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and database
  • Strong organizational and time management
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service
  • Proven leadership abilities and able to work
  • Experience providing support and information in a human services
  • Knowledge and experience with dementia, understanding of related
  • Volunteer management training/experience.
  • Able to lift equipment used in the


  •  Able to travel within the North Central Okanagan region. Must have driver’s license and own reliable transportation.
  • Due to travelling requirements between program sites, candidates residing in the region are preferred. 
  • Some evening and weekend work is Flexibility with regards to scheduling is required
