AM’UT ABORIGINAL YOUTH PROGRAM

A specialized residential program for Aboriginal girls who are considered at risk and are struggling with addiction.  The philosophy is one of self-direction and independence, with individual treatment and goal planning focusing on developing a variety of coping skills and self-reliance.  There is 24 hour supervision.

 

Primary Purpose: To supervise residents, activities with youth, house cleaning, individualized service planning.  To enable youth to address addictions and personal risk factors in a positive manner.  To support youth in achieving and maintaining their goals.  Participates as part of the team responsible for the efficient functioning of residence operations.

 

Nature of Work: Located in Surrey- Various Shifts

Key Duties/Accountabilities: To supervise residents, activities with youth, house cleaning, individualized service planning.  To enable youth to address addictions and personal risk factors in a positive manner. 

Education and Experience:

  • Two year diploma in Child and Youth Counselling with a further 2 years of education or
  • a 4 year degree
  • Areas of study including Child and Youth Counseling, Youth in conflict, Developmental Psych, Family System
  • WCB Level One First Aid, Food Safe Certificate

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with in a residential setting
  • Experience working with Aboriginal children and/or youth
  • Drug & alcohol addiction counseling knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
  • Dynamic team work
  • Strong communications skills (written and oral)
