Job Profile:

The Mental Health Educator is responsible for researching, developing, scheduling, delivering and
evaluating mental health related, educational workshops for school aged youth with a focus on
elementary and secondary levels, teachers, parents, employers, other community professionals, and
for the general public. The Mental Health Educator will also facilitate support groups for youth
and provide one-to-one support.


Consultations with teachers, parents and administrators, as well as recommendations and access to
community services are often carried out. Identification and follow up of high-risk students is
implemented with school administrators.


The Mental Health Educator is familiar with and adheres to relevant provincial laws, including, but
not limited to the Mental Health Act, the Child and Family Services Act, the Health Care Consent
Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also
expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building,
demonstrate effectiveness in working ina collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.

● A Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Social Service Worker or Child and Youth Worker
● Minimum two years experience providing individual counseling to youth
● Public speaking/presentation/workshop delivery experience is preferred
● Training and education in adolescent development and mental health, education, group work,
program planning and evaluation
● A second language (French, Cantonese, Farsi, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Punjabi, Russian,
Tamil, Urdu)
reflecting the local community is preferred.
● Knowledge of supports and services in York Region and South Simcoe
● Ability to apply Recovery principles and empowerment-oriented philosophies and practices in
● Ability to assess risk to individuals and take informed action in crisis situations
● Ability to prioritize needs and organize work efficiently
● Aptitude in developing innovative approaches to service delivery
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Excellent problem-solving and decision making skills
● Proficiency with various forms of presentation media
● Competence in relevant computer applications particularly Microsoft Office and Outlook
● A valid Canadian driver’s license, a minimum $1,000,000 third party liability insurance and
proof that insurance covers use of personal vehicle to transport clients
● A satisfactory and current Vulnerable Sector Screening
This position reports to and is supervised by the Program Manager.

Working Conditions:
● Schools or classroom settings, community settings, some office work
● Occasional weekend/evening hours may be required
