A career opportunity has opened up with The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry). We are a fast growing human rights and social services not-for-profit agency serving women and girls affected by the justice system. EFry is a place where you can grow your skills and your career. Our operations are spread across the Lower Mainland through 15 sites supported through the efforts of 160 full, part-time and auxiliary employees and 450 volunteers. We have three volunteer coordinators to manage our volunteer programs.

Reporting to the Regional Manager of Housing First, you will be responsible for the recruitment, performance management, training and development of volunteers to support EFry’s two women’s drop-ins in New Westminster and Surrey. Over 6000 hours of volunteer work are performed at these sites. Your role is to manage the drop-in centres and grow the Surrey site to support another volunteer coordinator position. Currently, the New West drop-in centre operates 7 days a week, with a free dental clinic on Wednesdays.


  • Support the development of strong volunteer teams to meet the needs of high needs women struggling with a significant degree of material deprivation and poverty.
  • You will do so through managing the recruiting and staffing of the sites by volunteers through assisting and working effectively in teams.
  • Develop an ongoing plan for volunteer training, scheduling, and management of the two sites, including development of materials intended to support and build skills for volunteers.
  • Create relationships with local schools and sites looking to place practicum students and liaise with UBC Faculty of Dentistry regarding the dental clinic.
  • Communicate with the Regional Manager and help her improve the experience of high needs women seeking support, and the productivity, accountability and job performance of volunteers looking to make a difference.
  • Provide leadership to volunteers and attend volunteer fairs regularly.



  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication and networking skills
  • Proactive, energetic team player with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to facilitate training, resolve conflict and coach others
  • Proven ability to solve problems
  • Willing to provide a criminal record check and comply with EFry policies
  • Commitment to the mission of EFry


You will hold:

  • A Volunteer Management Certificate or similar designation.
  • Possess a minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor volunteers to achieve goals.
  • Strong recruitment experience and knowledge; communication; & problem solving skills for volunteer management.
  • Strong project and time management skills to ensure ongoing operations and capacity building workshops for both volunteers and clients.
  • Strong training and development knowledge and experience.




Candidates must be willing to work a flexible 35 hour week, including some evenings and one day over the weekend. The salary range is $21.52-$23.07 depending on experiences which includes comprehensive benefits inclusive of participation in the Municipal Pension Plan.
