Location: Edmonton Salary: $1,000 for 100 hours (full time students only)

The Youth Program Intern will assist with a youth outreach program for Grade 6-12 students.  For $1,000 payment, this position is only available to full time students.

 

The Youth Program Intern must be present at at least 50% of the youth events in a month. Each youth event is approximately 4 hours of volunteer time. 20 youth events must be attended during the internship.  Approximately 20 hours of planning is required for this internship, broken up over the course of the school year. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

- Taking attendance and other administrative tasks

-Leading discussions (leadership and character building)

- Leading games/activities

- Assisting in the implementation of youth outings in the community

- Maintaining a positive working relationship with Kids On Track staff and volunteers

- Positive mentoring of youth- creating a warm and welcoming environment

- General support to the Youth Program Coordinator

- Assist in planning events and activities

- Behavior management of youth participants in the program

- Promotion of the program in the community

- Set up and take down of activities

- Ensure all Kids On Track policies and procedures are followed

- Serve as a chaperone for any overnight or weekend events

Ideal for someone with course work in:

  • Social Work
  • Recreation
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Event Planning
  • Drama
  • Physical Education

Some specialized skills required:

  • Must have a good understanding of youth development.
  • Must be able to work in a team setting.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Must submit a Criminal Record Check and an Intervention Record Check.
  • Must be outgoing and personable.
  • Must be organized and able to plan and execute group activities.
  • Must have experience leading youth groups and activities
  • Class 4 Bus license is considered an asset

  • Will develop and enhance considerable leadership skills.
  • Will develop and enhance teamwork skills.
  • Will develop skills in behavior management of youth.

Will develop skills in planning and implementing events for youth.
