Community Relations Manager

Cypress View Foundation is looking for a friendly, outgoing professional who is passionate about creating a strong and vibrant community for low to moderate income seniors through strengthening connections within the organization and outward into the communities of Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Cypress County.

An energetic team-player and team-builder, the successful candidate will be comfortable promoting the Foundation to the community, and in taking the lead in welcoming residents and families into the Cypress View Foundation family. As a relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills, the candidate will be willing to embrace new approaches and collaborations to support and enhance the outcomes and impact of the organization.

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of seniors’ supportive healthcare and housing, engaging internal and external stakeholders in the creation of a “great place to live” and building and maintaining connections through social media and other communication processes.

About Cypress View Foundation

Cypress View Foundation provides affordable senior housing and supportive care for low to moderate-income seniors, in an efficient, effective and caring manner.  Founded in 1960, we are a non-profit organization situated in Medicine Hat, Alberta, that aims to serve our residents with dignity, understanding, kindness and to continually improve the quality of life for our residents.

Funded by the Province of Alberta, City of Medicine Hat, Town of Redcliff, Cypress County, and Alberta Health Services, the Foundation is comprised of self-contained apartments, lodge accommodations, and supportive living care beds all contained within one complex with 4 wings.  The facility includes:

  • 51 self-contained apartments for seniors who are still able to maintain an independent lifestyle.
  • 112 Lodge Accommodations that allow seniors the opportunity to maintain independence without requiring nursing or home care. This includes activities, meals, cleaning, and laundry services in a home-like atmosphere.
  • 45 Supportive Living Level 3 Care Beds for seniors who require assistance with their daily medical and personal care.  Meals, portering, med administration, housekeeping, laundry services and an activity program are provided in a home-like atmosphere with Health Care Aide support 24 hours per day.

Located on 5 acres of land in N.W. Crescent Heights, Cypress View Foundation overlooks the City of Medicine Hat and the Cypress Hills.  With a budget approaching $6,000,000 and a unionized staff complement of nearly 100 (full and part time), the Foundation has a six-person Board of Directors composed of appointed representatives from the City of Medicine Hat, Town of Redcliff, and Cypress County.

Role Emphasis

This position directly reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and closely works with the Managers and Supervisors throughout Cypress View Foundation.  This position is responsible for developing strong and vibrant community within the building and strong connections externally to support organizational goals. Communications with internal and external stakeholders, overseeing our volunteer program and successful placement coordination are key components of this role. The role entails a high level of interaction with residents, families, staff, volunteers and the communities of Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Cypress County.


Required Experience/Skills

  • At least five years of experience in a supervisory/management position with demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving and customer service.
  • At least two years of experience in community engagement, social media and other communication processes.
  • Passion for and connection with the seniors’ housing and/or seniors’ healthcare sector, ability to positively influence key stakeholders and partners to enhance the experience of our residents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: demonstrated ability to develop strategic communications for maximum results.
  • Prudent financial management skills.
  • Leadership experience in supportive living is preferred.
  • A diploma in Social Work, Community Development/Engagement, Communications, Recreation or a related discipline is required. A Bachelor Degree in one of these disciplines is an asset.
  • A combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.
