About Cypress View Foundation

Cypress View Foundation provides affordable senior housing and supportive care for low to moderate-income seniors, in an efficient, effective and caring manner.  Founded in 1960, we are a non-profit organization situated in Medicine Hat, Alberta, that aims to serve our residents with dignity, understanding, kindness and to continually improve the quality of life for our residents.

Funded by the Province of Alberta, City of Medicine Hat, Town of Redcliff, Cypress County, and Alberta Health Services, the Foundation is comprised of self-contained apartments, lodge accommodations, and supportive living care beds all contained within one complex with 4 wings.  The facility includes:

  • 51 self-contained apartments for seniors who are still able to maintain an independent lifestyle.
  • 112 Lodge Accommodations that allow seniors the opportunity to maintain independence without requiring nursing or home care. This includes activities, meals, cleaning, and laundry services in a home-like atmosphere.
  • 45 Supportive Living Level 3 Care Beds for seniors who require assistance with their daily medical and personal care.  Meals, portering, med administration, housekeeping, laundry services and an activity program are provided in a home-like atmosphere with Health Care Aide support 24 hours per day.

Located on 5 acres of land in N.W. Crescent Heights, Cypress View Foundation overlooks the City of Medicine Hat and the Cypress Hills.  With a budget approaching $6,000,000 and a unionized staff complement of nearly 100 (full and part time), the Foundation has a six-person Board of Directors composed of appointed representatives from the City of Medicine Hat, Town of Redcliff, and Cypress County.

Role Emphasis

This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and supports quality resident care through the development and delivery of effective education and training programs and provision of performance support for staff in all departments.  The Educator/OHS Officer develops and leads the corporate Health and Safety strategy and management systems, and facilitates the work of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety committee. This position supports Managers and Supervisors to ensure compliance with all provincial care standards and OH&S legislation and regulations, and works collaboratively with the Wellness Manager to lead the organization in ensuring wellness for residents, staff and volunteers. The role entails a high level of interaction with staff, attention to detail, conflict management and strong administrative skills.

 

Required Experience/Skills

  • At least three years of experience in an educator/management position with demonstrated skills in leadership, workplace learning, communication, problem-solving and customer service.
  • At least two years experience as an OHS officer in a similar sized organization.
  • Empathy for and connection with the seniors’ housing and/or seniors’ healthcare sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement educational and/or OHS systems/processes to support organizational goals.
  • Current LPN license is required.
  • Experience in an educator role in supportive living is an asset.
  • Required Certificates (at hiring or within an agreed upon timeframe)
    • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
    • Certificate in Adult Learning
  • A combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.
