Intentionally following Jesus Christ and partnering with the community, The Mustard Seed combats the root causes of poverty in Alberta and works to create positive, lasting change in the lives of those we serve. The Mustard Seed provides basic services - food, clothing and housing, and support services – education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, the Church Engagement Coordinator will focus on building relationships with local churches to advance understanding of homelessness and poverty, and to mobilize the local church to be part of building hope and well-being for our most vulnerable citizens. Primary duties will be to administrate correspondences with churches, and to coordinate speaking engagements and tours with local church leaders. This role will also support the Community Engagement Coordinator in facilitating tours for school groups as required

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the Community Engagement team, developing a 2-year plan to foster relationships with 50 churches a year
  • Creating and fostering relationships by networking with, and coordinating presentations and speaking engagements with local churches
  • Administrative duties to track and evaluate church programming, relationships and speaking engagements
  • Supporting with school engagement (speaking, facilitating tours, etc.)
  • Assisting the Community Engagement Manager with the development and implementations of new initiatives to increase awareness around issues of poverty, homelessness, and exits from homelessness for staff, volunteers, and the general public

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Has or is in the pursuit of an undergraduate degree; studies in fields related to church ministry and/or education is an asset
  • Experience working with communities affected by poverty and homelessness
  • Proven ability to network and build strategic partnerships
  • Excellent public speaking skills; preaching experience considered an asset
  • Excellent administrative, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, public relations and group facilitation skills
  • Self-motivated and capacity to work independently
  • Competent with Microsoft Office

 

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Able to start as soon as possible
  • This is a 20 hour per week contract positon
  • Evening and weekend work might be required
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Employment Security Check is required
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our statement of faith
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
