The Role: Manager of IT

 

Under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager of IT is responsible for the development, implementation, administration and maintenance of the technical infrastructure for Open Door Group.  This position works closely with the leadership team, as well as operations and support staff to assess and address user and practice needs.  Major areas of responsibility include: network and system administration, managing project budgets, the supervision/development of all IT staff, and leading organization-wide efforts to improve the effective use of technology.

 

General Responsibilities

 

  • Technical and administrative leadership of IT Network, network security, and IT personnel across multiple locations.
  • Management of IT ticket system, as well as effective delegation to appropriate staff, ensuring all tickets are addressed and resolved in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Consult and communicate with various teams to ensure the seamless integration of new systems.
  • Manage the successful delivery of technology solutions, services and support for all employees and clients.
  • Oversee systems development, enhancement and the integration of new systems with existing systems.
  • Hands on day-to-day management of operations of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, telephones, software applications, peripherals and telecommunications equipment.
  • Provide metrics and reports to the senior leadership team on a regular basis and all users of telecommunication and information technology services and systems, as required.
  • Manage telecommunications infrastructure and development plans, projects, policies and procedures.
  • Provide knowledge transfer/training and mentorship to other IT staff.
  • Identify and manage risk specific but not limited to:
  • The storage, backup, and recovery of critical electronic data;
  • The security of sensitive / confidential data ; and,
  • Access and availability to critical information & passwords.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices, service level agreements, including providing written protocols and guidance to IT staff and to end-users.
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of all written documentation, including system and user manuals, license agreements, and documentation of modifications and upgrades.
  • Keep current with the latest technologies and determine what new technology solutions and implementations will meet business and system requirements.
  • Support the management of financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.
  • Develop for approval and implement all IT and telecommunication policies and procedures.
  • Establish best practice standards for key business areas and key performance indicators for information technology and telecommunications.
  • Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements as deemed appropriate.
  • Responds to other duties that may develop and are requested by the CEO and Chief Operating Officer, as required.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Senior Leadership Team and Board of ODG on committees, proposals, and projects.
  • Travel within BC will be required.

 

Supervision

 

The Manager of IT is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating the IT team and/or any volunteers/interns.

 

  • The Manager of IT has the authority to discipline staff up to and including termination in consultation with the Director of Human Resources and Chief Operating Officer.

 

  • Develop the IT team to meet the changing needs of users, groups and offices; new projects and technologies; and varying staff strengths.

 

 

 

Reporting

 

  • Reporting out on critical incidents and resolutions in accordance with Open Door Group’s QA and CQI framework.
  • Monthly performance and quality assurance reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Quarterly key performance indicator(s) reports to CEO and Chief Operating Officer.
    • Yearly Information Technology report to the Board of Directors.
    • Ensure all business activities and resources are consistent with ODG guidelines and polices.

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science/Information Technology.
  • Unrestricted driver’s license and use of motor vehicle

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum 5 years recent relevant work experience, 2 of which must include supervisory or management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and leading information technology and telecommunications activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, leading and organizing diverse operational activities and projects to achieve business goals and objectives.
  • Experience managing and providing support to user groups and staff across multi-sites

 

Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Ability to provide leadership and influence regarding required information technology and telecommunication policies, processes and obligations.
  • Excellent communication skills with Senior Managers and staff.
  • Working technical knowledge and ability, covering the major IT disciplines. This person should be technically oriented and be able to accomplish technical tasks alongside the IT administrators if/when required.
  • Excellent critical thinking ability.
  • Cloud application/migration experience considered an asset.
  • Certifications in network, server, or security technologies would be considered an asset.
