Family Success Program

Family Therapist

Part-time (18-20 Hours/week)

Closing Date:  October 13, 2017

Reports To:  Family Success Program Supervisor

 

Job Summary: 

Will provide family therapy and couples counselling to those referred by the local MCFD office. Services will be Care Team based and the Family Therapist will work closely with the social worker assigned to the family. Services will be time-limited and goal oriented and will range from 6 sessions intervention strategy, 3 months or 6 months of family therapy depending on the complexity of needs. The Family Therapist will provide expertise and professional liaison with other community partners serving children, youth and families.  Family Therapist may also offer group therapy as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Attends ICM meetings for families that will receive for 3 or 6 months of family therapy by the Family Success program.
  • Gathers information, conducts assessments, develops interpretive summaries and in collaboration with clients, creates individualized Service Plans.
  • Offers family therapy and couples counselling to support families with issues relating to attachment, conflict management, abuse, neglect, intergenerational trauma and intergenerational parenting strategies, grief and loss and other family dynamics.
  • Maintains confidential client files both on paper and on agency’s online tracking system.
  • Maintains regular communication and strong links with other relevant organizations. Maintains current information regarding relevant referral sources.
  • Ensures that the social workers are encouraged to provide feedback to the program,
  • Provides the social workers with progress and closing reports for each client they refer to the program.
  • Participates in staff trainings, staff meetings, individual supervision with program supervisor and group supervision/consultation with peers.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, or in a related field.
  • Eligible to register as a counsellor with BCACC.
  • At least two years of experience as a counsellor. Specialized training and experience in family therapy.
  • Proven ability to work effectively during crisis.
  • Excellent organization, time and general management skills.
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Must maintain a satisfactory criminal records check.
