COMMON PURPOSE

All employees have a responsibility to carry out the vision, mission, and values of Discovery House while adhering to all Agency policies and procedures.  Paramount to this responsibility is demonstrating a ‘client-focused’ approach to all aspects of Discovery House operations and a willingness to cooperate with all Discovery House staff and volunteers in translating these emphases into the planning and delivery of all programs and services.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Child and Youth Development Worker will report to Shelter Team Manager and will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of all activities and day-to-day operations of the Child Development Center, including supervision and support for the children’s emotional, physical and cognitive skills.  This position will also assist in the planning, organizing and facilitation of activities, groups and events for the children and youth of Discovery House.  Other administrative duties include but not limited to documentation of daily activities, assessment of the playroom incidental needs,

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To be the successful candidate, you will have a diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with children.  You have good understanding of children’s developmental stages, understanding of domestic violence as a personal and social and its impact on children and knowledge of community resources for children, youth and families.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Staff work a forty hour week that is Monday through Friday and will be required to work some evening s and weekends in which case, they will be required to flex their hours or be compensated with time in lieu for extra hours worked.
