COMMON PURPOSE

All employees have a responsibility to carry out the vision, mission, and values of Discovery House while adhering to all Agency policies and procedures.  Paramount to this responsibility is demonstrating a ‘client-focused’ approach to all aspects of Discovery House operations and a willingness to cooperate with all Discovery House staff and volunteers in translating these emphases into the planning and delivery of all programs and services.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Housing Liaison will report to the Case Management Team Lead and provides housing locating support to families who are homeless and fleeing domestic violence. The primary responsibility is to build good relationships with landlords and property managers to locate and advocate for safe, affordable and sustainable housing opportunities for clients.  The incumbent is also required to provide  ongoing support related to viewings, lease agreements, security deposits, move-in inspections, move outs and any financial requests from landlord. Other duties include liaising with the team, update and advise team lead and program manager of client’s housing status and maintain documentation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE THE OUTCOMES

  • A post-secondary education in a relevant field is preferred, but a combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and/or property management experience
  • Case management and/or outreach experience desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability with computer programs, including but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of domestic violence as a clinical and social issue.
  • Understanding of the intersection between domestic violence, poverty and homelessness.
  • Understanding of the Housing First and Harm Reduction models.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practice.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, negotiate and prioritize in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • A positive attitude, high energy, creativity, and flexibility.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Housing Liaisons work in the community and in client’s homes, and are also required to work in an office environment.
  • Housing Liaisons work a 40 hours’ work week that is Monday through Friday but may be required to flex their hours.
