As the Café Manager, your primary responsibility is to provide site-management for the Kids in the Hall Program, with a significant focus on catering. Working collaboratively with the Transitional Case manager and the Director of Culinary, the Café Manager is responsible for meeting Cafe and catering outcomes and delivering an exceptional customer experience that encompasses a social focus.

 In Your Role You Will

  • Develop a service standards programs for youth as a part of the Employee Readiness Program.
  • Establish relationships with youth participants, local business, suppliers, stakeholders and customers.
  • Supervise and train all front of the house staff, catering personnel and youth participants in the Employee Readiness Program.
  • Conduct and complete supervisions, evaluations, goal development for front of the house staff and catering personnel.
  • Plan and refresh the beverage menu regularly to ensure that it is reflective of local products, suppliers and availability.
  • Ensure compliance of public health protocols, food safety standards and labor regulations with regards to equipment handling, food storage and food prepared by youth and kitchen staff.
  • Schedule and coordinate all café catering requests.
  • Report end of day point of sale and cash reporting and ensuring labor and food costs are in line with budget.

Education and Certifications

Required

  • High School Diploma
  • Clear Police Check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Clear Intervention Record Check
  • Certifications: Pro-serve (or the ability to obtain this certification prior to the start date), Food Handling, WHMIS, First-Aid.

 Recommended

  • Certifications: Aboriginal Awareness, De-escalation, Suicide Intervention, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Practices.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a food service professional.
  • 3+ years leadership experience in food service environment
  • Previous background as a barista or café manager is an asset.
  • Previous experience in social enterprise is an asset.
  • Proven track record of cost control including food, equipment, labor and wastage to meet financial goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good personal hygiene
  • Proficient with MS Office package and cost management system
