JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology or Counselling with a specialization in mental health, addictions, trauma sensitive training and/or immigration and diversity. Work experience in the area of supervision, crisis intervention or domestic violence with adults or children preferred. Counselling qualifications and experience required.

 

Job Description:

  • Manage and support existing shelter staff to ensure Service Delivery meets expectations and conforms to the Outcome Based Service Delivery Logic Model
  • Supervise existing Crisis Intervention Workers, Outreach Workers, Intensive Case Counsellors and Child Support Workers including outside service providers to best meet the individual’s and family’s specialized needs as well as day to day workings of shelter.
  • Develops a supportive relationship with women with or without children in an empathetic and non-judgemental manner.
  • Provides comprehensive wrap-around services including: offering counselling referrals, providing access to Elders, education, culturally sensitive programming, employment support, housing services and/or financials resources.
  • Able to provide applicable community resources for women and children affected by domestic violence, homelessness, addicitons, mental health and other complex needs.
  • Oversee and develop housing plans to ensure housing stability and assist clients in achieving optimal quality of life and community living. This may include supporting client/landlord relationships, problem solving to prevent eviction and improving the clients’s capacity to maintain the home.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with outside agencies
  • Develop a supportive relationship within a domestic violence framework that reflects an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
  • Formulate an accurate assessment of the clients support system, strengths, short-term, mid-range and long-term needs and goals
  • Act as an advocate on behalf of a client with the clients consent
  • Conducts danger assessments and safety plans with women and engages the client about the cycle of violence, power and control and the effects of violence on children
  • Represents the agency in a positive and professional manner
  • Facilitates weekly/monthly case management meetings
  • Takes part in scheduled supervision and appraisal meeting, staff meeting, in-services and training
  • Conducts file audits and ensures all documentation adheres to outlines required by contractual obligations

 

Personal Qualities and Skills:

 

 

  • Ability to manage employees and supervise in a union environment
  • Maintains standards of confidentiality as well as adheres to all ethics, standards and professional boundaries
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Able to work in a flexible self-directed manner with minimal supervision
