Driver – Community Agency Program

You are a community-minded individual that will be instrumental in connecting with community organizations with food support from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The Community Agency Driver is an experienced driver with a good working knowledge of computers, who believes in our organization’s mission.

This is a full-time permanent position; you will pick up donated foods, assemble orders and make deliveries to many of our 80 agency partners in the Vancouver area. A solid understanding of shipping & receiving and general warehouse operations is essential for success in this role. You are a team player with a strong desire to contribute, an aptitude to learn and a passion for making a difference.

What you will do:

  • Execute on a daily schedule of food pickups, deliveries & other tasks assigned;
  • Complete a pre-trip vehicle inspection to ensure safety & reliability; fuel trucks as needed and report in on any vehicle issues;
  • Operate / drive vans & light to medium trucks, as scheduled; organize food to maximize efficiency and load distribution;
  • Utilize SAP Business by Design solution in all goods movements, inbound, internal and production tasks;
  • On return to the warehouse, unload van, weigh goods & record information on daily record sheet; put away all returns;
  • Convey feedback from agency partners, including requests for changes to the delivery schedule, food quality complaints & other feedback provided;
  • Provide relief to other drivers and programs as needed; assist in warehouse as required.

Specifics of what we need:

  • Strong comfort level with computers
  • Clean driver’s abstract from ICBC; 2 years of safe driving experience required;
  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written, is required
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license is required; a class 3 driver’s license is an asset;
  • Recent Food Safe Level 1 is an asset
  • Criminal Record Check (with vulnerable persons) is required.

Work Environment – proper safety footwear is required; physically fit with knowledge of proper lifting techniques required to lift up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis; will need to sit or stand, walk, climb stairs for long periods; ability to reach above shoulder height or below waist is also required.
