WJS Canada is currently looking for one individual to join our team in the Lower Mainland, as a Part-Time Communications Specialist (Social Services).

What does WJS do? 

WJS contracts with governments across Canada to provide community-based services to children and families, persons with developmental disabilities, and young offenders.  The continuum of services offered by WJS is designed to foster positive life changes and increase self-esteem and confidence.

The Position and Scheduling:

The communications specialist role is to support our public relations teams by overseeing our external and internal communications. The communication specialist will assist with related administrative tasks, engage stakeholders in mixed media communications and work closely with executive teams to ensure the development and execution of public relations plans and strategies.

 

The part-time Communications Specialist will work 20 hours per week (exact schedule to be negotiated upon hiring), with a primary office within the Lower Mainland.


The successful applicant must possess:

  • Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Communications or relevant field of expertise or equivalent combination of educations and experience
  • Five years specialized communications experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
  • Reliable, safe vehicle with appropriate insurance

Specifically, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with marketing professionals to produce corporate marketing materials/advertisements.
  • Managing internal/external communications (drafting messages from senior leadership, corporate releases, memos, newsletters, etc.).
  • Maintaining calendars (events, etc.) and stakeholder contact lists.
  • Graphic design and web development.
  • Drafting and disseminating content for social media and/or company website.
  • Participating in communications and marketing planning sessions.
  • Assisting in organizing and execution of social events, etc.
  • Conducting research including liaising with stakeholders to support communications and marketing initiatives.
  • Representing the agency at conferences, meetings and functions as appropriate.
