Maternity Leave Contract

Position: Occupational Therapist – ACTT
This is a full time maternity leave contract Union Bargaining Unit position.

Purpose of the Position: The Occupational Therapist participates as a clinical member of a multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and crisis intervention/support services for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in the clients’ environment of choice throughout Halton. This position focuses in assessing, formulating treatment plans and supporting activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, work, and any areas that assist the client to increase independence. This position is responsible for implementing the goals and objectives of the Summit Housing & Outreach Programs.

Key Requirements:
 Graduation with a Master’s Degree from an approved school of Occupational Therapy and associated clinical experience (3 – 5 years) in mental health.
 Registration and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
 Registration with either the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists in order to secure appropriate liability insurance as required for registration with your regulating College.
 Liability Insurance purchased through the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists.
 Knowledge and familiarity with the services in the Halton community generally.
 Ability to work both independently and co-operatively within a multi-disciplinary team.
 3-5 years previous ACTT experience.
 Ability to develop and complete assessments in the areas of ADLs, IADLs and work for clients as required.
 Prepare and present OT strategies and information to Summit and the ACT Team as needed.
 Specialty in assessing clients’ readiness to live independently or in transitional housing.
 Ability to develop and lead groups such as cooking, vocational and other life skills.
 Special interest, skill, and sensitivity in working with consumers of mental health services.
 Demonstrated ability to be flexible in work assignments.
 Demonstrated commitment to personal professional development.
 Sound knowledge and understanding of systems issues and Mental Health Legislation and Reform.
 Ability to carry out Managers’ directives.
 Special interest, skill, and sensitivity in working with consumers of mental health services.
 Ability to recognize, assess, respond, and/or diffuse crisis situations.
 Valid driver’s license, adequate insurance coverage – use of a vehicle is essential
 Willingness to work shifts as assigned throughout Halton.
 Ability to project a professional image while representing Summit Housing &
Outreach Programs ACT Team.
 Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and recovery.
 Must be flexible and able to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.

Shifts: Mainly 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday with one or two 12:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. shift per week. Occasional weekends/statutory holiday. Some flexibility required.
