Summit Housing & Outreach Programs: A leader in supportive housing and case management services; providing excellent care and support for people impacted by mental health.

Based in Oakville, serving a population in the Halton Region, Summit Housing & Outreach Programs is searching for a dedicated clinician to join their team as the Gerontologist for the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT).

The Gerontologist participates as a clinical member of a multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and crisis intervention/support services for older individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in the client’s environment of choice. This position also acts as a consultant to the team on services, information, and options for older clients.

As a progressive mental health professional, you bring knowledge and expertise in the clinical treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental health illness. Using your in-depth knowledge of psychiatric disorders, you employ evidence based assessment and interview techniques to assess clients’ needs and to develop individualized service plans and crisis intervention techniques.

Position: Contract Modified Full Time Gerontologist (4 days/week, 32hrs)
This is a Bargaining Unit position.

Key Requirements:
1. Master’s Degree in Gerontology or Master’s Degree in a related field with Gerontology specialty or additional training/certification.
2. Additional education/training specific to gerontology studies.
3. 3-5 years previous ACTT or mental health experience.
4. Must have an interest and aptitude in working with the hard to serve population.
5. Knowledge and familiarity with the services in the Halton community generally.
6. Ability to work both independently and co-operatively within a community-based multidisciplinary service providers’ team.
7. Ability to carry out Manager’s directives.
8. Special interest, skill, and sensitivity in working with consumers of mental health services
9. Ability to recognize, assess, respond, and/or defuse crisis situations.
10. Valid driver’s license, adequate insurance coverage – use of a vehicle is essential
11. Willingness to work shifts as assigned.
12. Commitment to professional development.
13. Ability to project a professional image while representing Summit Housing &
Outreach Programs.
14. Must be flexible and able to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.

Shifts: Mainly 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to Friday with one 12:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. shift per week. Occasional weekends/statutory holiday. Some flexibility required.

Main Location: Halton Region

Wages: Step 1: $29.96 Step 2: $31.55
