Job Function

Donations such as clothing and household items are generously donated by Vanouverites every day.  We call these donations Gifts in Kind (GIK).  This position is responsible for creating and implementing Covenant House Vancouver’s overall strategy for the annual solicitation and stewardship of GIK donors to meet the needs of our youth programs and other departments within the agency.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cultivate relationships with existing donors
  • Identifies new donors and acquires items
  • Responds to and tracks all GIK inquiries; ensures donation acceptance policy is enforced
  • Responsible for collecting donor information and acknowledging donations
  • Measures success of acquisitions with the following criteria:  most needed/suitable, fair market value of goods, operating costs savings to agency
  • Liaises with volunteers (e.g. drivers, clothing room assistants) and donors
  • Negotiates vendor discounts when appropriate
  • Works closely with Facilities on monitoring clothing and other items’ inventory
  • Works on Christmas backpack program acquisition and distribution and other special initiatives (ie. group volunteering sessions in GIK)
  • Liaises and builds relationships with outside organizations to arrange for donation redistribution
  • Track donors and gifts in Raisers Edge database
  • Keeps detailed records of activity (donors identified, contacts made, solicitations etc.)
  • Determines and tracks the value of donated goods and services
  • Assist other members of D&C team with tasks as required (ie. grant and proposal writing, busy season help)
  • Pulls Thank-a-Thon calling event lists and enters Thank-a-Thon data; liaises with Volunteer Coordinator as required
  • Provides administrative support to Department Director and other members of the D&C team as required


Minimum Qualifications

  • A Provincial or other vocational or professional certificate or degree in fundraising would be preferred
  • Valid Driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract required
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy items
  • Well organized and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office and database programs such as Raisers Edge


Other Information

  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Full benefits package, including sick and personal time
  • Position will remain open until filled
  • Preferred start date: ASAP
