Community Living British Columbia [CLBC] is a crown corporation responsible for arranging supports and services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. PAC is the designated tertiary care mental health service for individuals aged 14 years and older who have a developmental disability and a concurrent mental illness or behavioural concern. PAC is the only center in BC that provides specialized inpatient assessment and treatment for dually diagnosed individuals. The nurses at PAC are part of the multi disciplinary team that provides a comprehensive 90 day assessment or a 30 day stabilization and reintegration into community.

 

The Role:

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor/Nurse in Charge, as a member of the behavioural support team follows the positive behavioural support plan to provide psychiatric and physical care for individuals admitted to PAC. Provides input into plans, develops and implements group and individual goals for individuals and incorporates assessment, observation, interventions and plans and participates in both group or individual day to day care activities. Participates as a member of the code white team and utilizes skills as per MANDT training. May restrain and seclude aggressive individuals as per Safety Plan and under the direction of the team.

 

The Provincial Assessment Centre employs positive behavioural support strategies when working with clients. However, to prevent client’s injuring themselves it can be necessary to physically separate and contain aggressive individuals. The Mental Health Worker must have knowledge, experience, and capacity to physically restrain aggressive, ambulatory male and female adults.

 

Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12. Post Secondary training and satisfactory completion of Health Care Support Worker certificate, or relevant program is required. Minimum 3 years of experience working with clients in a related field. Suitability is assessed on the basis of an applicant’s physical and emotional health, education background, life experiences, and ability to work with others.

 

Class 5 driver’s license, current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate required. Successful applicants are required to work shifts and are subject to a criminal record review.
