Position Type:   Part-Time, Varied Hours (20 hours/week and up) and Shifts (early morning start)

Position Overview: The CSR/Driver, Transportation contributes to the safe, effective and efficient delivery of transportation services to vulnerable populations in the community by:

  • Assisting in the processing of service requests , the preparation of transportation schedules to optimize Agency capacity to meet the community’s service needs;
  • Providing backup support as a Driver (during peak times and to cover unexpected staff absences) and assisting individuals to continue living in their own residence and in the community by providing safe, courteous and efficient transportation services.  

 

  • Position Deliverables/Accountabilities CSR: Working in close collaboration with the Lead Scheduler and under the direction of the Manager, Transportation, the incumbent:
  • The CSR/Driver supports the Transportation team by ensuring continuity of service and minimizing service-delivery disruptions to transportation clients.
  • Assists in the efficient booking and scheduling of all client requests for service, referring those that cannot be met to the Lead Scheduler;
  • Responds to client inquiries, concerns, referring more complex matters to the Manager;
  • Maintains contact with drivers, monitoring route progress, providing updated information on any schedule changes or adjustments, road or weather conditions, noting break times, pick-up and drop-off times, and following up with the Lead Scheduler on any driver concerns;
  • Maintains database information on usage and fees, as well as other data required by the funder or by Agency protocols;
  • Assists the Manager and Lead Scheduler in the coaching and mentoring of youth workers and volunteers.

Position Deliverables/Accountabilities—Driver: Under the leadership of the Manager, Transportation and working with scheduling staff, the Driver:

  • Provides backup support as a Driver (during peak times and to cover unexpected staff absences)
  • Adheres to the driving schedule assigned by the scheduler, transporting clients safely and courteously to and from their destinations;
  • Performs thorough vehicle safety inspection prior to departure, noting and immediately reporting any concerns or deficiencies to the Manager or designate;
  • Maintains regular communication with scheduling staff throughout each shift, reporting problems, concerns or updates;
  • Completes all required documentation accurately and promptly;
  • Complies with all Health and Safety Regulations, Ontario Traffic Safety Act, MTO Regulations and Agency policies and procedures.        

 

Qualification Criteria:

  • High School Diploma;
  • Must possess a B, C, E, or F license and have a satisfactory driving record;
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable individuals;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience driving commercial fleet vehicles or buses;
  • Ability and confidence to drive safely in variable weather conditions;
  • Experience with scheduling software or similar database software;
  • Understanding of the transportation issues faced by vulnerable populations;
  • Working knowledge of health and safety requirements applicable to passenger transportation vehicles;
  • Well-developed computer skills,
  • Strong customer service skills, tact, diplomacy and patience;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Able to maneuver and handle objects weighing up to 70 kg;
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours;
  • Knowledge of the Caledon/ Region of Peel area roads/routes is an asset;
  • Clean Criminal Records Check – Vulnerable Sector.
