Canada has the highest rate of multiple sclerosis in the world, making MS Canada’s disease. The MS Society of Canada is the country’s leading MS advocate, funding leading research in MS and programs & services that help people live well with the disease.

 

Reporting to the Director, Communications and Public Relations, the specialist is responsible for developing strategies and tactical plans for content delivery for a variety of channels, driving social media response and engagement. The specialist also manages and collaborating with community advocates and influencers to raise awareness of the MS Society of Canada brand. The specialist will develop and implement social media plans for integration into broader communications and marketing strategies, and for specific initiative-based/signature projects supporting fundraising, brand awareness, programs and services, and government relations. The specialist utilizes data, news, topics, trends, developments and resources (external and internal to the MS Society) to create content related to multiple sclerosis, research, public policy impacting disability awareness, and other issues related to the delivery of services, fundraising and marketing of the MS Society. This person will work with the team by managing relationships, developing and delivering content, insights and research to help MS Society meet content goals and objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops strategies and tactical plans for the deployment of social media content supporting the MS Society’s revenue campaigns, government relations and advocacy campaigns and programs and services activities.
  • Drives engagement on social media by creating and adapting MS Society key messaging for a social media audience and guiding the conversation on MS Society social media channels
  • Delivers content through social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other appropriate social media channels
  • Manages relationships with social media brand advocates and influencers, and jumps on trends and conversations happening within the MS community on social media
  • Leads the direction of the MS Society social media content by writing blog content, developing scripts and storyboards for videos, and gathering stories and visuals from people in an online space
  • Acts as internal point of contact for MS Society fundraising, development, research, government relations, and P&S staff when connecting brand advocates to various campaigns
  • Acts as the social media response lead on the crisis communications team and makes recommendations for response on social channels
  • Works with the media relations team to monitor and coordinate media responses on social media channels
  • Creates written content supported by strong visuals, for various media as assigned
  • Creates and adapts content specific to each of the channels of deployment
  • Develops content for various marketing and communications projects, and advises on best ways to transform storytelling content for e-marketing initiatives
  • Collaborates with the marketing and communications team to identify appropriate methodologies and channels for deploying content
  • Provides coordination and logistics support to content development teams
  • Manages projects on an as needed basis
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Community College Diploma with 3-5 years of experience in communications, social media content management, and media and public relations, or the equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in writing high quality social media, web communications, and e-marketing content and copy is required
  • Excellent ability in listening, written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with internal and external constituents by telephone and face-to-face
  • Ability to think creatively and initiate projects re: identified needs
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Detail and process oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Interest in learning new skills, expanding knowledge into new areas
  • Ability to work independently with deadlines, multiple projects, problem solving
  • Proficiency with SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook

 

Special Considerations:

  • Occasional weekend or evening work
