Agency Overview: Caledon Community Services (CCS) is a multi-service, community-impact organization and recognized leader in addressing health and care, transportation, employment, training, resettlement, business development and social service needs of individuals and families in the Town of Caledon and surrounding communities. CCS operates an integrated, client focused model of services that provides seamlessness between distinct programs, innovations in service delivery, significant volunteer leadership and myriad multi-sector partnerships and collaborations directed towards community building and meeting the needs of a growing Caledon Community.


Position Overview: The Director, Communications and Marketing will strategically empower the organization to increase and continuously improve the positive impact of its communications, marketing, outreach and engagement efforts to the full spectrum of community stakeholders including: service recipients, store customers, funders, donors and supporters, volunteers and staff. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) while also fostering close working relationships with five other Divisional Directors, the Director, Communications and Marketing brings passion, expertise, leadership skills, innovation and strategic thinking to drive the success and growth of CCS’ communications and marketing.


Summary of Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the CEO and working closely with the Senior Management Team, the incumbent:

  • Creates, implements, evaluates and continuously improves:
    • A comprehensive, agency-wide marketing, communications, outreach and public relations strategy and program that enhances the agency’s image and position amongst the full spectrum of stakeholders, facilitates internal and external communications and supports and aligns with the agency’s strategic plan
    • All organizational marketing, communications, outreach and public relations activities and materials including; on-line presence, publications, etc;
  • Manages the Agency’s marketing budget and ensures funders’ guidelines are followed;
  • Ensures that the agency regularly conducts relevant market research. Monitors trends and demographic information and ensures the senior management team is updated on this information to facilitate improved targeting of marketing and communications activities;
  • Ensures effective and consistent articulation of CCS’ desired brand both within and outside of the agency to all relevant stakeholders by overseeing and directing the development of branding strategies, print materials, promotional materials and on-line content and platforms for Agency use including the CCS website and social media;
  • Directs and oversees editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all agency publication
  • Oversees the maintenance and distribution of CCS’ library of promotional information, electronic and hard copy, for ease of use by staff and supporters;
  • Manages the Agency’s website content, approving all copy before it is posted;
  • Promotes and coordinates media interest in the agency and ensures regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests. Manages media contacts by arranging interviews and overseeing the design, production, and distribution of public relations materials including press releases and kits;
  • Acts as the agency’s representative with the media and/or supports the CEO as the agency’s representative with the media;
  • Represents the Agency to stakeholders, interested parties, and the public;
  • Supports all CCS special and fundraising events by providing marketing and communications expertise toward promotional strategy development and coordinating the creative design for promotional materials and activities including web and social media marketing;
  • Supports program needs by providing marketing and communications expertise towards outreach/communications strategy development and coordinating design requests for Agency-wide communications to help drive increased consumer usage of CCS services;
  • Manages external contractors regarding pricing and production of key communication products;
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Serves as Acting CEO as assigned;


Summary of Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications or marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • 5 to 7 years demonstrated experience as a Marketing and Communications professional, or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Supervisory/management experience of individuals and teams;
  • Experience with web design, web administration, editing and writing;
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software and database programs;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current digital and social media trends;
  • Ability to see the big picture, think strategically;
  • Ability to effectively organize, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information, particularly in assessing effectiveness of strategies, processes and systems, preparing annual reports, executive summaries, Board reports, etc;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to professionally design, edit, and proofread promotional materials for print, digital, and social media;
  • Proven ability to work within a collaborative team environment in a consulting capacity;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a keen sense of diplomacy;
  • Creative, resourceful, innovative, cost-efficient and intuitively driven to achieve desired results;
  • Strong leadership, people-management, coaching and mentoring skills;
  • Ability to engage and manage positive relationships with relevant stakeholders (internal and external) in a polished, professional and confident manner;
  • The ability to work independently in directing new initiatives or enhancing existing programs;
  • Organized with strong follow through and strong time and project management skills;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office) and comfort with data management systems;
  • Technical competence with social media, Content Management Systems and Adobe CS software;
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality multi-media presentations;
