Residential Care Workers – Casual on Call

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

The role of a Residential Care Worker is to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in their homes and in the community. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Preparing healthy meal choices for clients
  • Medication management, administration and required documentation
  • Personal care routines
  • Housekeeping, universal precautions and the use of personal protective equipment
  • Working as a positive role model
  • Supporting meaningful community inclusion and integration
  • Facilitating the involvement of clients’ family and friends
  • Administrative duties including computerized logs and reports, and accountability of both program and client funds

Additional Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities in residential and community settings
  • Experience working with people with challenging behaviours
  • Experience/formal training in augmentative communication
  • Knowledge of safe handling of individuals, and equipment including lifts
  • Ability to support individuals during community activities

Hiring Requirements:

  • Two or three professional references (from a manager or supervisor)
  • Class 4 or 5 BCDL (Class 7 is not accepted) and driver’s abstract
  • Emergency or standard first aid with CPR/AED training
  • Criminal record check and tuberculosis screening clearance
  • Medical approval to work
