What our organization needs

Our Events and Sponsorship Coordinator will be an outgoing and driven fundraising professional with experience working in the charitable sector. Working as a member of a small, full service marketing and fundraising team, this coordinator will work cross functionally in a fast paced and demanding environment to plan and execute events, exceeding revenue targets to support our operations. The role requires collaboration with various internal team members and volunteers in the execution of all fundraising events in order to achieve outcomes in our annual fundraising plan.


We require a strong, engaging and dynamic leader who is highly organized, experienced in event planning, has a demonstrated track record for sponsorship sales and is able to manage multiple priorities and projects. This individual will need to be available to work nights and weekends as required.

We are a state of the art facility providing essential care to families facing the daily challenges of caring for a child with complex medical needs. We are the only organization in Canada to provide highly specialized paediatric hospice care, respite and residential services.

Job Responsibilities


Sponsorships and Ticket Sales:

  • Increases net revenue for the organization primarily through securing NEW sponsorship partners for our Signature Fundraising Events including: Wheels (cycling and community event with over 200 cyclists) Charity Golf Tournament (150 golfers) and Comfort & Joy Gala (300+ guests);
  • Solicits event sponsorships from corporations, foundations and individuals ranging from $1,000-$10,000; Revenue generation for all three events should net a minimum of $350,000 annually;
  • Ensures effective donor and volunteer relations. Recognizes and acknowledges supporters in accordance with our donor recognition and stewardship policy. Develops and fosters relationships with supporters to ensure the financial sustainability of events and fundraising efforts;

Event Management:

  • Develops a comprehensive annual strategy to manage all events on behalf of The Darling Home for Kids, including fundraising events, community events, open houses, and stewardship events. Currently this portfolio includes 3 signature fundraising events, 4 home events, and a donor and volunteer recognition event;
  • Provides leadership and management for volunteer event planning committees. Recruits volunteers, coordinates meetings, ensures effective communication and accountability, and inspires others;
  • Manages all aspects of event planning and execution to ensure the success of each event, including event day logistics, engaging donors and volunteers, selling tickets, securing venues, liaising with vendors and event planners, and developing and executing production schedules;
  • Develops content for all materials associated with events including sponsorship solicitation packages, invitations, marketing material, event programs and signage; liaises with a graphic designer and printer in the creation of these materials;
  • Creates and manages event budgets, providing regular financial reports and executing events within the approved budget;
  • Develops and executes a communication and public relations strategy to increase awareness of our organization, and promote our events; Creates and distributes press releases, and liaises with the media;
  • Utilizes social media and other digital spaces to promote the organization and upcoming events, recognize donors, and engage new supporters;
  • Completes a post event evaluation for each event, including solicitation of feedback from sponsors, attendees, and committee members;

 Third Party Event Coordination:

  • Develops a comprehensive annual strategy to engage and steward new and existing third party events, enabling the organization to generate revenue and increase our partnerships with corporations, local businesses and other organizations;
  • Acts a liaison for third party event holders in the community to ensure the success of their events;
  • Develops a comprehensive program and marketing strategy for engaging NEW third party events. Portfolio represents 35 events annually, generating proceeds ranging from $1,000- $30,000;
  • Coordinates the distribution of materials and the event attendance of volunteers and organization representatives; attends third party events as an ambassador for the organization;
  • Ensures the success and sustainability of our third party event fundraising initiatives, generating net revenue with a minimum of $130,000.

Performs other related duties as assigned



  • Bachelor degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in a related field;
  • Minimum 3-5 years of fundraising and event management experience. Through previous employment experience, proven success in fundraising through events, including sponsorship sales;
  • Marketing and public relations experience with the ability to liaise with the media and general public; Strong understanding of the digital space and a proven track record of success using social media platforms as part of an integrated campaign strategy;
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and team building skills;
    • Successful track record engaging a variety of stakeholders and ability to build and manage volunteer committees;
    • Acute attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills;
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment; Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities;
  • Strong work ethic;
  • Flexible schedule is required to accommodate weekend and evening meetings and events;
  • Knowledge of Donor Perfect or other fundraising related databases;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation);
  • Physical job related demands as it relates to event set up and execution;
  • Unlimited access to a reliable vehicle and a valid Driver’s License;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening;
