Youth & Family Worker – Family Focus

2 Temporary Full-Time positions – (Until September, 2018)

35 Hours/Week

REPORTS TO:  Manager, Youth Services

Job Summary:

Join a dynamic team to work with families and youth (12-18 years of age) in Abbotsford in an outreach capacity.

We work with a trauma-informed lens, using evidence based practices. We offer a collaborative work environment, a supportive team, flexible work hours and opportunities for professional development.

This role entails

  • Offering parents emotional support and knowledge to help them raise teens successfully in today’s world;
  • Supporting parents and youth in developing helpful coping strategies;
  • Connecting family members to each other and  to the community;
  • Ensuring basic needs of family members are met;
  • Working with youth and families in conflict and crisis;
  • Family mediation;
  • Delivering services one-on-one, with several family members or in a group setting.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A BA in a relevant field i.e. Child & Youth Care, Social Work, and Psychology;
  • Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of government and community based programs and related provincial and community support systems;
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with high risk youth and families;
  • Knowledge of parenting skills;
  • Familiarity with mental health and substance use issues;
  • Proven ability to work effectively during crisis;
  • Excellent organization, time and general management skills;
  • Ability to work with hostile/aggressive youth and parents;
  • Excellent networking skills.

 

Other Requirements:

Must maintain a satisfactory criminal records check. As well as:

  1. Use of personal vehicle and business insurance.
  2. Emergency First Aid & CPR (Child & Adult)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) training.
  1. Anti-racism, anti-violence and cultural competency training
  2. v) Evening work and flexible work schedule.
