The Valley of the Mother of God is a Christian retreat center located on 308 acres, part of the Niagara Escarpment, situated on top of one of the highest hills of the beautiful Hockley Valley. We are 40 rooms property with banquet hall accommodating up to 300 people.  Youth Groups, Men’s Groups and Church families rent our facility. We help them have a memorable time with us.

 

Job description

 

As a Resident Manager, your job will include managing all segments of the retreat, including lodging, food and beverage management, housekeeping, group activities, and guest services. You'll be in charge of employees, finance, customer service, promotions, and other activities.

 

Qualifications

  • Must possess outstanding leadership capabilities to direct and inspire staff Members toward achieving revenues & targets.
  • Leadership experience in similar Christian Retreat Home operations with sizable direct-reports is an asset.
  • This is a very physically demanding position – candidate must be able to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and act upon personnel issues on a daily basis. This would include ensuring job expectations are met by subordinates, counseling, reviews and disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, must be able to professionally convey thoughts and ideas.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Confident, self-driven, dynamic and loves to learn. Has a strong ability to take direction and suggestion from others.
  • Enjoys interaction with the public, extraverted personality – genuine care for others demonstrated by daily interactions

Duties and Responsibilities

 

As a resident manager, you'll be responsible for the small repairs & maintenance. You’ll hire contractors to perform services when necessary.  You'll ensure that all supplies, from housekeeping materials to furniture, are in good condition and in stock. You'll monitor payroll, customer billing, and expense accounts. You‘ll be responsible for the smooth running of all activities at the place.

 

Customer Service

 

Resident manager ensures positive customer experiences by maintaining high-quality facilities and remedying problems. You'll conduct room, kitchen, and grounds inspections to make sure that they are all up to standards. You'll greet guests at arrival, create standards surveys, and find acceptable solutions to problems that may arise. You'll also need to keep abreast of local happenings so you can book tours or recommend activities to guests unfamiliar with the area. You may also coordinate functions or events for your guests.

 

Leadership Responsibilities

 

As a Resident Manager, you'll be in charge of hiring, training, and scheduling new staff members in coordination with the Valley Committee. You'll also maintain employee records. You'll set goals for employees and help your staff achieve these goals. You'll schedule and lead staff meetings to regularly communicate with your staff and to ensure that all departments are meeting the retreat’s standards.

 

Sales & Marketing Responsibilities

 

Conducting qualified appointment sales calls on major local and national accounts. Following up on all sales leads, assisting in the development of the marketing plan, budget and development of Monthly Sales Action plans to support the retreat’s annual budgets, and occupancy targets. Creating new ideas to generate additional revenue.  Presenting and fostering a professional and friendly atmosphere at the Retreat, and with clients where excellence is expected, valued and recognized.
