What’s the Job?

There are no sharks in our pools, but there are plenty of cute kids. You’ll put your excellent lifeguarding and instructing skills to use by working collaboratively with other team members to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment for all members using the YMCA pool.

What Will You Do?

· You’re always on guard when you’re at the pool, your eagle eyes trained on every corner of the aquatics area.

· When you’re in the water, you’re leading Aquafit classes with gusto and enthusiasm or you’re teaching swim lessons with patience, positivity and professionalism.

· You come to swim lessons ready and prepared with well-designed lesson plans for a variety of programs to meet the needs of participants at various levels.

· You stay on top of progressive evaluations for participants, performing your administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities in a timely and efficient way.

· Safety First! You always ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by being aware of and following YMCA standards, policies, procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff, and in every nook and cranny of the facility, including locker rooms and spectator viewing areas.

What Do You Need to Have?

· You may be fairly new to lifeguarding and swim instruction, but you have your current National Lifeguard (NLS) pool option and Swim Instructor Certification (WSI).

· You’re also up-to-date with a current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years) and CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year).

Who Are We Looking For?

· You’ve taken your aquatics skills to the next level by completing YMCA’s Swim Instructor course and our Aquatic Fitness Certificate (or equivalent).

· You are flexible and willing to learn new skills, change shifts, and fill in for others on a moment’s notice.

· You love to learn and have taken the Advanced Leadership course or other development programs.

· You’re all about pleasing others and you put this to work by providing outstanding levels of customer service to everyone you interact with.

· You share what you know, assisting new staff and volunteers, making sure they understand the YMCA’s procedures and practices.

· You’re a people person, and building purposeful relationships with YMCA members, program participants visitors, and colleagues is how you roll.

· You’ve chosen to work at the YMCA because you believe in our mission, you’re a philanthropist at heart and this makes you an enthusiastic and active participant in YMCA's Annual Campaign.

· You don’t stand on the sidelines, you’re an active participant, attending staff meetings, planning sessions and training events.

· You’re dependable and reliable, you show up on time, wearing the right attire, including that winning smile!
