Position Overview: The Development Associate contributes to the success of fundraising initiatives by providing administrative services and support to the Fund Development Division and serving as the initial point of contact for enquiries regarding all fundraising initiatives.


Summary of Responsibilities:


Under the general direction of the Chief Development Officer the incumbent:

  • Performs a range of tasks (administrative, logistical support) to support the Fund Development team, coordinating campaigns, special events and annual programs in accordance with the timelines and criteria outlined in the annual Fundraising Plan;
  • Maintains regular communication with the Fund Development team to provide necessary support and ensure campaigns and events achieve targets;
  • Maintains and administers Donor Perfect database and trains staff, volunteers, and students in use of same;
  • Coordinates Direct Response campaigns;
  • Creates and sustains positive relationships with key stakeholders in the community;
  • Ensures that donations are appropriately, accurately and securely received, recorded, accounted for and acknowledged, consistent with all policy and regulatory requirements;
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive data for audit purposes;
  • Provides monthly reconciliation reports;
  • Provides monthly and annual reports on campaign results;
  • Assists in writing, preparing and submitting funder and grant proposals as required;
  • Provides ongoing administrative support to Fundraising staff as required;
  • Supervise, train and manage student interns and fundraising volunteers;
  • Attends events, cheque presentations and promotion and public awareness activities as required;
  • Provides back up reception coverage as required;
  • Other duties as assigned


Summary of Qualifications:


  • 2 year college diploma in relevant field (i.e. fundraising, marketing, communications) or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • 1 to 2 years related experience in fundraising, marketing and/or communications;
  • Project management experience an asset;
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the rules and regulations governing Canadian charities;
  • Proficiency with fundraising database applications (Donor Perfect, Raiser’s Edge);
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, e-mail, etc.);
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills when interacting with donors, event attendees, community members, sponsors, etc.;
  • Ability to multitask, deal with frequent interruptions;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, organized, thorough;
  • Strong teamwork skills;
  • Demonstrated self-discipline and self-motivation, ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Strong ethical character capable of handling donations and confidential and financial information;
  • A passion for supporting the Mission, Vision and Values of CCS;
  • Clean Criminal Records Check.
