Since 1928, Family Services of Greater Vancouver has been creating brighter tomorrows for people and families in our community. Last year we supported more than 13,000 people to create possibilities for themselves through professional counselling, therapy, education, advocacy, planning, employment support, and other community services. 


Job Summary


Under the supervision of the Manager, Communications, the Marketing and Design Coordinator will support the Agency’s marketing, communications and fundraising efforts, and help define, promote and enhance the Family Services of Greater Vancouver brands, both internally and externally, online and offline.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Marketing & Communications Strategy


    • Assist in creating and implementing effective communication and marketing plans designed to raise the profile of the Agency internally and externally.
    • Identify new opportunities to elevate the Agency’s presence in the community.
    • Develop strong and genuine relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Work with program coordinators to establish or enhance their marketing strategies, execute tactics, measure effectiveness, and report back on successes, failures, and lessons.
    • Act as mentor/ambassador for Communications by ensuring all program areas are aligned and on board with internal and external communication and marketing efforts.
    • Participate in internal committees and provide marketing advice and support as needed.


Design & Layout


  • Assist in the brand identity evolution of the Agency and its programs.
  • Design professional, visually appealing and on-brand promotional materials and graphics for print, web and social media.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators to ensure branding is consistent across the organization. Educate and support where needed.
  • Source quotes from external printers and coordinate printing process.

Researching, Writing and Editing

  • Research, write and edit internal and external newsletters, reports, marketing collateral, web, blog and social media content, advertising copy, speeches, presentations, media releases, news articles and fundraising materials.
  • Interview staff and clients to create compelling stories that promote the value of the Agency and its programs. 

Web and Social Media


    • Maintain the Agency’s existing social media channels and websites.
    • Develop editorial calendars and innovative marketing strategies to raise brand awareness, drive donations and engage new audiences.
    • Assist with development and execution of online campaigns.
    • Track web and social media analytics and report on monthly progress to Manager, Communications.


Event Support


  • Support logistics, planning and marketing for internal and external events (e.g. the Agency’s 90th anniversary, A Night in the Life fundraiser, staff conference, and program events including: community kitchens, parenting skills, financial empowerment workshops etc.).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Proven ability to adhere to brand guidelines and design eye-catching and effective online/offline marketing materials.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (primarily InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), WordPress, MailChimp, Hootsuite.
  • Understanding of SEO principles.
  • Experience shooting and/or editing videos an asset.

Education / Experience

  • Formal education in design, marketing and communications, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working for a nonprofit considered an asset.


Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • Samples of promotional/marketing-related writing and design work to be submitted with application.
  • A positive, friendly and hardworking attitude.
  • Creativity, ability to use initiative and a sense of humour.

Work Hours: Full-time, based on 35 per week, Monday – Friday 9am-5pm, plus occasional out-of-hours work for events as needed.

Salary/Pay Grade: GS 11 Step 1 with excellent benefits including pension

Location: 201-1638 East Broadway, Vancouver

Position Start Date: As soon as possible
