Services to Access Resources and Recreation (S.T.A.R.R.)

This position requires union membership. Compensation is in accordance

 with Appendix A of the BCGEU Collective Agreement

(School Aged Child Worker – Grid 9)

 

Options Community Services Society requires Children’s Activity Workers to work on a casual, on-call basis. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, the Children’s Activity Workers will provide social and recreational programming for Surrey inner city elementary school children and their families. This position is open to male and female applicants.

The successful applicant will have:

 

  • A 1 year diploma/certificate in the social services field, with a minimum of 1 year experience in the recreation/education fields or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Proven experience in creating and facilitating recreational activities.
  • Proven experience working with children 6 - 13 years of age in both small and large groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to physical, sexual, cultural, ethnic, religious and life-style diversities.
  • Familiarity with common office computer programs.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate.
  • A satisfactory criminal record check is required.
  • Valid Driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A second language and a Class 4 Driver’s Licence is an asset.
  • Crisis Line experience an asset.
