Serve actively as a member of the management team for the Brantford Booth Centre.

Provide oversight and supervision of the front desk case management, housing keeping, maintenance and kitchen day-to-day operations.

Ensure that duties assigned are completed in an appropriate, safe, and efficient manner.

Has input and may participate in the hiring, orientating, evaluating and disciplining of staff.

Provide support and supervision of staff and assist with crisis intervention, diffusing conflict and problem solving as required. Responsible for completing the scheduling of relief staff to ensure coverage for all shifts.

Review all time sheets for accuracy and for submission to administration department for processing.

Participate in daily shift changes to ensure proper transmission of information from shift to another.

Monitor staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards, and prepare, submit and act on incident reports.

Monitor and check logs to ensure the completion of regular security checks.

Provide statistical and evaluative information to management when required.

Identify staff training requirements and make recommendations regarding staff development for those supervised.

Ensure appropriate storage of food and hygienic handling of food.

Order and purchase supplies for housekeeping and maintenance as required.

Develop, coordinate and facilitate the annual Christmas Dinner in consultation with the Director.

Work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations

Participate in all Health & Safety related accidents and injury investigations.

Assist the Executive Director in scheduling and chairing staff meetings

Participate in supervision and performance appraisal process.

Ensure that staff are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary

Perform other position related duties as required.



Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience in a residential setting, preferably with individuals with addiction, supervision and working with marginalized clientele.

Working knowledge of Homeless Individuals.

Working in an non-profit and unionized environment is an asset.

Experience working with a diverse population.

Knowledge of and proven ability to link with community resources.

Must have strong organization and planning skills.

Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Ability to lead, coach and motivate.

Ability to deal effectively with all managers and staff and create a working climate that is positive and mutually supportive.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Self-motivated and disciplined.

Strong supervision and leadership skills.

Effective intervention skills.

Ability to lift/move 20 lbs.

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification would be an asset or willing to obtain.

Safe Food Handling Certification, or willingness to obtain.

Ability to demonstrate a supportive, respectful and non-judgmental approach to clients.

Able to work as a part of a team and independently when necessary with minimal supervision.

Be able to lift/move more than 20 pounds as required.

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver’s abstract that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

Be able to obtain clearance through the Enhanced Reliability Screening through Corrections Canada.

Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Support for and an understanding of mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered


This is a permanent full time position.   The facility is a 24/7 operation and as such the hours of work vary according to requirements of responsibilities.   Schedule may vary due to the requirements of position responsibilities, which may include some work outside of regular schedule, particularly on some weekday evenings and weekends.


This permanent full time position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 40 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount. Local Travel is required.  Rotational on-call duties


Normal hours of work: Rotational Work Schedule

  • Week 1: 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday
  • Week 1: 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
