  Job Summary:

 

Under close supervision, assists senior staff to provide support and direct care to children under six, including special needs children or infants/toddlers to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical and emotional growth.   

 

 

  Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Creates a warm, supportive, healthy and engaging early learning environment for children
  2. Assists senior staff in monitoring children in indoor/outdoor activities
  3. Assists in planning, preparing and carrying out developmentally appropriate programs and activities
  4. Under close supervision, conducts activities with children on an individual and group basis to promote the development of physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills
  5. Attends to children’s physical needs, which may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping
  6. Provides a daily nutritional snack that is healthy
  7. Maintains all necessary documentation and records as required and reports concerns to senior staff
  8. Keeps program facilities and equipment safe and clean, reporting any repairs and concerns to senior staff
  9. Performs other related duties as required.

 

  Reporting relationships

The ECE Assistant reports to the Program Manager

Section 3

 

Required education, experience, training:

 

Grade 12 plus enrolment in Early Childhood Education Certificate program or completing work experience required for licensing

First Aid certificate, including CPR for adults and children

FoodSafe training/certification

Knowledge and awareness of family, parenting, cultural issues, age appropriate programming and developmental needs of children

One years’ experience within an Early Childhood environment

 

Skills and Abilities:

 

-Working knowledge of child development, family systems, early learning, community and child care issues

-Plans and carries out developmentally and culturally appropriate activities 

-Reports on progress, behaviors and other issues

-Administers first aid and assistance in accordance with established policy 

-Confers with program manager and team staff with regard to unusual or problematic issues in order to give support and direction to parent.

-Experience planning and implementing a culturally and developmentally appropriate and effective early learning, play-based environment for children 0-6 years of age

-Coordinates with team staff to discuss, plan and assess program activities in light of program goals and objectives, and in conjunction with organizational policies and procedures

-Strong interpersonal skills

Knowledge of Langley’s community service agencies, programs and resources

Experience working with different cultures and multicultural sensitivity is an asset

 

   Additional Information:

Criminal Record Check required.

Union Membership required.

Flexibility to work different shifts within varying Family Resource Environments and Locations.
