WJS Canada is currently looking for one (1) individual to join our Gladstone team in Vancouver, as a part-time Residence Worker.

The Program:

Gladstone House is a home and a community-based day program housed in a large single family residence on a quiet street in Vancouver close to local restaurants and coffee shops. Neighbours respect and support our residents. Gladstone House provides lifelong support to four men who have mental health issues, cognitive disabilities or are living with mental health related diseases. WJS staff assist individuals in living a full life through supports based on individual needs. Programs are designed to provide those we serve with personalized support programs that stress independence, support unique strengths and qualities, and encourage integration into the community.

 

The Position:

Under supervision, the Residence Worker (RW) is responsible for assisting clients to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Ensures physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs are met. Assists clients to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Provides behavioral support and supervision in the program and community, implements and monitors individual program plans through observation and accurate reporting, and participates in operating and maintaining the program. 

 

The RCYW provides care to children, youth or adults with moderate to severe behavioural problems in a residential or day program setting in an accredited agency. As key worker for assigned persons served, the RCYW is responsible for overall development and care of those individuals. In conjunction with the individual’s care team, the RCYW assesses physical, psychological, social and developmental needs, and designs and implements individualized personal service plans and plans of care that address and meet those needs. The RCYW also participates in the operation and maintenance of the program.

 

This position requires membership with CUPE.

 

Scheduling:

One (1) part-time position, with a weekly schedule of:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Friday 1530-2300
  • Saturday 1500-2300
  • Sunday 0800-1600

The position will include 36.5 hours per week (Grid 10) as a Residence Worker and 2 hours per week (Grid 11) as a Residential Child and Youth Worker.

 

As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Human Services Field or minimum of two years recent related experience
  • Minimum of one year experience working in complex health
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS and Food Hygiene and Sanitation Certificates
  • Valid Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution Certificates
  • Physician’s note confirming suitability, including negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Valid BC Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract and a reliable vehicle
  • Experience with trauma informed practices
  • Positive behavior supports experience
