We have one permanent part time, 14hr/week position.

 

This position involves operating commercial vehicles for Communitas Social Enterprises' (CSE) recycling and shredding programs. The position will involve route planning and driving activities, supervising small crews, and assisting with the physical collection and delivery of recyclable materials. Our mission is to employ people of all abilities. This position is responsible for the support and training of persons with disabilities in the course of enterprise activities. Additional casual hours may become available.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Mentor (Employment Preparation Trainer):
  • Encourages, inspires, mentors and emboldens trainees in the course of driving and supervising
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with trainees for the purpose of teaching transferable skills and providing a supportive, growth-oriented work environment
  • Works with the manager to coordinate service delivery to individuals in the training program
  • Truck Driver:
  • Performs regular pre-trip inspections and conducts routine maintenance on vehicles
  • Operates standard and automatic commercial vehicles in pickup and disposal of recycling materials
  • Plans and carries out daily routes with accuracy and timeliness
  • Operates hydraulic equipment, including lifts and compactors
  • Fills out applicable paperwork (work orders, dispatch sheets, time cards, etc.)
  • Responsible for refueling and cleaning vehicles
  • Follows work detail direction from CSE manager and operations personnel
  • Communicates with CSE manager regarding operational issues
  • Gives instruction to other staff drivers when needed
  • Resolves worker disputes and conflicts as necessary
  • Works with the CSE manager to update and implement operating procedures in order to ensure continuous quality improvement
  • Maintains an awareness of the goals and philosophies of the STEP training program in order to complement those goals as much as possible when working with STEP trainees
  • Interacts with customers and the general public in a way that reflects well on Communitas and CSE
  • Directs potential customers to the CSE manager
  • Maintains good relations with third parties such as Abbotsford Community Services Recycling Depot
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications and Skills

  • College level education is preferred
  • A philosophy of service that is in line with Communitas’ Vision, Mission and Values
  • Familiar with and able to implement ‘Spirit of Gentleness’ principles
  • Familiar with and able to implement Psychosocial Rehabilitation principles fostering a belief in the recovery process
  • Experience in driving commercial trucks in urban settings
  • Ability to operate recycling trucks and equipment
  • High energy and highly motivated
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Strong mentoring and encouragement skills
  • Ability to model appropriate behaviour (conduct, performance, concern for people, morale, compliance with program policy and procedures, work performance standards, appearance, professionalism, ethics and personal integrity)
  • Excellent teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently without supervision
  • Ability to take initiative with creativity
  • Must be physically able to lift heavy materials
  • Familiar with and able to navigate to various locations in the Abbotsford area
  • Possession of a valid Class 4 BC driver’s license, preferred with air brake endorsement and able to drive standard transmission
  • Possession of a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate with CPR (must maintain valid certification)
