Accountability, Collaboration, Justice, Respect and Trust.

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFB) was set up as temporary relief to the hunger crisis in 1982 and has grown significantly in the last three decades. Today the GVFB provides assistance to over 27000 people weekly. 22% of the GVFB members are children, 22% are seniors. The needs of the community are met through multiple distribution locations, community kitchens, training workshops and partnerships with more than 80 community agencies located in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and North Vancouver.

Reporting to the CEO, and serving as a member of the Executive Team, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will inspire, provide clear direction, and expertly guide strategy development, implementation and evaluation in three significant functional areas of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank: Community Food Access, Food & Education, and Operations. The COO will be responsible for providing leadership and support to his or her team – including volunteers – in the oversight of the exceptional delivery of all member programs and initiatives. The COO will take an entrepreneurial approach, dedicated to the continuous improvement of the GVFB’s programs and systems, while always maintaining a sharp outlook on providing access to food in a dignified and respectful manner for members.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned, nimble leader, well-versed in effecting change in the improvement of operations and program delivery. With the member experience being core to his or her success, the incumbent has experience in either operations management, social services sector, education, logistics, and/or supply chain management. Entrepreneurial, visionary, yet able to roll up the sleeves, the ideal candidate will have a track record in leading diverse staff and volunteer teams, promoting engagement, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement and operational excellence. The COO will bring a passion for the work of the GVFB, an alignment with the Society’s values, and a commitment to working with a wide range of stakeholders to improve food justice and food security for its members. Your experience – including 5+ years as a senior leader of teams - is augmented by a Bachelor’s degree. ERP and SAP ByDesign Integrated Management System knowledge is a bonus.
