Job Summary

CMHA, North and West Vancouver is seeking a part time experienced Counsellor to provide individual counselling support to clients in search of employment. Reporting to the Executive Director, CMHA North and West Vancouver in collaboration with Work BC North Shore Employment Service Centre, the Counsellor will conduct client intakes and assessments, provide individual therapy services, complete corresponding progress notes, database entries and administrative forms within prescribed deadlines.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support clients to formulate initial goals for brief counselling.
  • Provide brief therapy on an individual basis, using appropriate therapeutic and/or psycho-educational models.
  • Liaise and consult with community partners and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development of counselling procedures and guidelines.
  • Timely file management including completion of client evaluations and progress notes. Ensure and maintain confidentiality of clients and their clinical files.
  • Participate in program data collection and analysis. Submit quarterly numerical reports.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work or related field.
  • Current registration with a professional body, e.g. BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
  • Minimum 3 years of counselling experience.
  • Training and demonstrated experience working with women’s issues.
  • Training and demonstrated experience working with individuals with barriers to employment.
  • Training and demonstrated experience working with survivors of violence.
  • Knowledge of counselling principles and practice.
  • Knowledge of North Shore community services.
  • Familiarity with ICM database or facility in learning custom/complex software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of resources related to mental health and anti-oppression practice.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills and able to relate to a diverse range of people.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR is a condition of employment.
  • Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment.
