An exciting opportunity exists for Women’s Health Care Assistants for the Sue Bujold Floor at Bridge Housing for Women, a program of Atira Women's Resource Society. We offer a challenging and rewarding work environment for women passionate about the work of ending violence against women and children. Understanding the dynamics of violence against women and children and the intersectionality of oppressions within a feminist framework and being able to apply this understanding in your day-to-day practice is mandatory.



Minimum of one-year experience working with women affected by violence/ abuse and who may also be struggling with substance use, mental and spiritual wellness, poverty and homelessness; experience supporting women to meet their physical, emotional and social needs while working collaboratively with co-workers and a group of service partners is a requirement. Experience as a Residential Care Aid and or Home Care Worker and or as a support worker in a similar setting is required. Must have a well-developed analysis of the ongoing impact of colonization and the resulting impact on First Nations, Métis and Inuit women; must understand and be at ease working within a harm reduction environment.


Primary Accountabilities:

  • Administer medications to women living on the floor according to Atira policies/practices
  • Provides 1-1 and group support to women living on the Sue Bujold Floor, an eight-bed supported living  program for women with chronic life-limiting illnesses;
  • Communicates effectively with staff and health care professionals;
  • Acts as resource person and liaises with other staff and community professionals on matters related to resident care and overall health care;
  • Provides health care education as required to residents and staff;
  • Assists women moving in and when moving out;
  • Maintains the safety and security of the floor ;
  • Responds to healthcare emergencies;
  • Schedules women for follow-up visits and arranges for outside referrals;
  • Liaises with family, medical and other resources, as required;
  • Advocates on behalf of the women for additional services and resources, as required;
  • Ensures compliance with health & safety regulations;
  • Keeps accurate records, files, log notes and statistical information as per Atira practice/policy.

Graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program.


Additional Requisites:

  • BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker registration
  • All positions are subject to a criminal records review
  • A valid First Aid Certificate is required
  • Food Safe certification is required
