The Mustard Seed provides basic services—food, clothing and housing, and support services—education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Reporting to the Fund Development Manager in Edmonton, the Events Coordinator is responsible for planning and executing impactful fundraising events throughout the year.  The Events Coordinator works as part of a dynamic fundraising team to meet the fund development and stewardship goals of The Mustard Seed.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Manage a portfolio of annual fundraising events for the purpose of raising funds and generating awareness for The Mustard Seed
  • Plan, design and produce fundraising events while managing all project delivery elements within time limits
  • Work with event team to organize: facilities, decor, catering, entertainment, transportation, participants, special guests, equipment, promotional material etc.
  • Ensure compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations
  • Conduct market research, gather information and negotiate contracts
  • Assist with preparing budgets and provide periodic progress reports to management for each event project
  • Keep track of event finances including check requests, invoicing, and reporting
  • Evaluate events, prepare reports and make recommendations for future initiatives
  • Support the Communications team in public relations for the event
  • Support Volunteer Services in recruiting volunteers prior to development events
  • Manage event volunteers during events
  • Work as a member of the Development team to ensure that recognition and stewardship activities are undertaken in an intentional and effective manner
  • Support Donor Relations, Donor Stewardship teams in keeping accurate event participant records and facilitating donation processing
  • Manage data processing for Fund Development Manager and Major Gifts Officer
  • Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

 

  • Related post-secondary education or 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Goal-oriented with a passion to build hope and well-being for those living in poverty
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to strict deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to solicit donation and sponsorship support, negotiate contracts and build productive business relationships
  • Proven ability to oversee 20 staff and volunteers per project
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in MS Office software, SharePoint and social media tools
  • Knowledge of donor and event management databases considered an asset

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week. Flexibility with evening and weekend work will be required
  • Fast paced environment with periods of high volume workload
  • Frequent travel required. A valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
  • Extended computer use, sitting, standing, walking, and must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Driver’s Abstract and Employment Security Check is required
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our statement of faith
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

 

Start date: Immediate
