The Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) is seeking a Web and Social Media Communications Specialist to join its staff team. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Web and Social Media Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and managing the Federation’s social media strategy and its Web content. He or she must possess initiative and drive to work both independently and collaboratively.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, experience and abilities:

  • 5+ years’ experience working as a Web and Social Media Communications Specialist in an association, education sector, or a not-for-profit environment;
  • Post-secondary education in the areas of public relations, media relations, marketing, communications, or equivalent work experience;
  • Courses in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Drawing, and Digital Imaging (colour) OR demonstrated on-the-job experience with a range of media files and graphic-based resources;
  • Knowledge of professional written communications standards with strong writing, editing and journalistic skills;
  • Experience working with a wide range of communications resources, specific to Web and social media, including associated systems for Web content management;
  • Proficiency using computer graphics software (eg. Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign);
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, SharePoint, HTML;
  • Experience in editing photos and producing short videos;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English or French (additional consideration may be given to candidates who are bilingual – English and French); • Superior organizational and time-management skills;
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work under pressure;
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to research and organize information;
  • Proven team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A commitment to maintaining high quality publicly funded public education and to the contribution of unions to society.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Regularly produce and refresh website content, to ensure timeliness, relevance and ease of access to federation information;
  • Produce e-publications
  • Maintain an active CTF presence on key social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube;
  • Disseminate news releases using various platforms and tools;
  • Produce and edit videos and visual presentations;
  • Create design ideas using computer-based design packages such as Adobe Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc.;
  • Generate monthly web-specific statistical reports, analyzing data and establishing baseline metrics;
  • Conduct online search of articles related to public education, the teaching profession and labour community for weekly online newsletter;
  • Other related duties.

CTF offices are located in Ottawa. Therefore, the successful candidate must work in Ottawa. Following a three-month probationary period, the position is a permanent one that comes with a competitive salary and a full range of benefits. Duties begin January 8, 2018.
